While Time Remains

Yeonmi Park
This is the first nonfiction book I have ever reviewed. It opened my eyes to how good I have it as an American. The book is about the author, a North Korean defector, and the life she has experienced. Her time in North Korea can be summed up in one word. Hell. She was oppressed, sold into sex slavery, and a experience what American universities have become. This review reflects on the experiences Yeonmi shares within the book.
Many Americans have only experience what Yeonmi Park has through our TV and cellphone screens, learning how difficult the past was in many countries. Some American experienced what Yeonmi has and are here in America for a better life. Let me tell you! The U.S.A has people like the book's author coming over in droves for a reason. America is truly free.
Imagine having your language and view of the world limited thanks to the government. Imagine your ancestry determining how much food you receive, where you live, and how people treat you. Yeonmi escaped escaped all this and experience what can be described as sensory overload. Americans have more choices and rights than any North Korean can dream of. That was my impression after reading Yeonmi Park's words.
