Before They Are Hanged

Five Stars

This second book of the First Law Trilogy was quite a read. I was hooked from page one and am excited to read the next book. A character called the Dogman had the most interesting adventure in the whole book. He experienced the most emotional hardship out of all the point of view characters.

An Explanation

 An

Explanation

I wanted to be an author because I wanted to matter. I wanted to create something of my own. I hadn't finished college and couldn't afford to. My original plan was to go the traditional route because I knew self-publishing would be a disaster for me. It turns out that assumption came true.

Let's back track a bit!

First. It isn't easy no matter what path you choose to publishing. I knew this. It's why I originally chose traditional publishing because I'd be writing the book and promoting it. Those two tasks were all I wanted to do as an author. I also wanted to travel the world, sign books, and see my book on the big screen. This is still possible of course, but my experiences have brought me down to earth. I know how things work now.

Let's fast forward!

I signed with a publisher in December 2023. I believed all of what I wanted was well on its way. This turned out to be wrong by June of 2024. I was crushed. I had to buy my rights back and figure something out. I self-published. I currently have a novella coming out this week. This sounds like rising from the ashes of defeat, right? Kind of.

I realized after going back and forth about my path forward this. I can't do this alone. I need a team and a pinch of guarantees. The money to go it alone isn't there. The most important thing is that I am not mentally capable of doing this alone.

Going forward I will work on a new manuscript. I will either be in a different genre or remain in fantasy. I will also continue to promote my novella. As far as what route I will be taking into publishing that has not been determined.
