Upcoming Graphic Novel Reads and Reviews (Mostly DC comics)

 Upcoming

Graphic Novel

Reads and Reviews

(Mostly DC comics)

I decided as a little side quest to read and review both old and new graphic novels. A graphic novel can contain five or more issue of a comic book even. One of my favorites is Batman Hush. It was written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Jim Lee.

The three most recent reviews you'll find on this blog are Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman, and Absolute Wonder Woman. The next review will be for Batman Cataclysm. It is a prelude to what will be called Batman No Man's Land. This event consists of four volumes. I will break things up by reading Batman Black Mirror before tackling No Man's Land volume one.

I hope in the next few months to see a third volume to Ultimate Spider-man. This version of the wall-crawler is different than most. He's married with kids and Uncle Ben is alive.

That wraps up what I will be reading and reviewing.

A Review of Absolute Wonder Woman Vol 1

 A

Review

of

Absolute Wonder Woman

Written by Kelly Thompson

3 Stars

The art and variant covers featured in the back were the best parts of this book. I will confess this is the first time I have read a Wonder Woman book. I was almost hooked for several pages. We are presented with a new origin story, but throughout it there seemed to be something missing. Unlike the previous Absolute books I have reviewed this one lacked substance. Wonder Woman was kind and strategic but there really wasn't any motivation. Absolute Batman and Superman were fighting for noble reasons. Their world was dark and different but you could root for them. Wonder Woman basically had her origin story and then took charge of the present crisis. She knew everything and wasn't challenged enough.

I can't recommend this book. A comic book isn't just fantastic art. Its a story packed with adventure, miracles, and a character who struggles to prevail.

A Review of Absolute Superman Vol 1

 A

Review

of

Absolute Superman

5 Stars

This absolute universe DC Comic has developed doesn't miss. Jason Aaron takes Superman from what we know to something with more depth. You see the man of steel fighting injustice on a whole new level. He doesn't have all that we've come to know for 80 years. Superman has his will power and the goal to help earth do better than Krypton.

I highly recommend this new Superman adventure.

A Review of Absolute Batman Vol 1: The Zoo

Absolute Batman Vol 1

The Zoo

5 Stars

I read this book a little while back and can't say one thing bad about it. Scott Snyder has given us the most brutal and calculated Batman since Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. Scott gives you a new origin story and a caped crusader who you don't want to meet in an alley.

I highly recommended this to Batman and comic book fans. My next read will be Absolute Superman.

A Look Inside the World: From The Ignited Moon to The Scorched Hunter

 A

Look

Inside the World:

From The Ignited Moon to The Scorched Hunter

The world you'll experience when reading The Ignited Moon and The Scorched Hunter was danced into existence. Five nemamoons (goddesses) gathered together, performing specific dances of their own design. A war followed of which I hope to dive deeper into someday. Both books are a standalone and will lead into one big team-up book.

The Ignited Moon

The world you experience as you read is ancient and cruel. Traditions are strict. Guilt by Blood is the strictest. You inherit the crimes and bad deeds of your parents. The kingdom you grow up in is most likely at war or experiencing infighting amongst its royalty. You'll will find the moon plays into tradition and it is referred to as plunemar. It shines in each kingdom for forty days before moving to the next.

The Scorched Hunter

The setting is in the same world as The Ignited Moon, but on a different continent. It has a medieval setting possessing magical creatures capable of great speed. Unlike the other book only one goddess exists and her judgement is swift. You can be elected or born into leadership. You have to win the people and a tournament. There are three breeds of dragon and the most dangerous will freeze you to death. Bundle up.

A Review of Mortal Monarchs: 1,000 Years of Royal Deaths

Review

of

Mortal Monarchs

1,000 Years of Royal Deaths

By Suzie Edge

4 Stars

I have been dying to read this book for years. And to be honest it makes me want read more nonfiction. The author, Suzie Edge, explores the deaths of British monarchs. You learn how each death works on a medical level and Suzie even includes a bit of humor. I recommend this book to his lovers and those studying to work in the medical industry.
