A Review of Justice League: Darkseid War

 A Review of

Justice League: Darkseid War

This book was written by Geoff Johns, drawn by Jason Fabok and Francis Manapul. Its by far one of the greatest comic book event of the New 52. I like this comic book event so much I have it in single issue and now the DC Essential Edition. The story involves the Justice League against Darkseid and the Anti-monitor. There is a strained mother and daughter relationship throughout the story. What attracted me to this comic book event was its artists and writer. Geoff Johns is one of my favorite comic book writers. Jason Fabok and Francis Manapul are excellent at their craft. Francis, did a great Detective Comics run. Jason draws possibly the best Batman ever.

A Review of Children of Dune

 A

Review

 of

Children of Dune

By Frank Herbert

3 Stars

This is the third of a six book series with the world of Arrakis. Its main focus is Paul Atreides sister Alia who acts as coregent to Paul's children Leto and Ghanima. Alia wants to control them and faces opposition on many fronts. I'm still not quite sure if I want continue Herbert's books after this one. Here is why.

I've found myself lost at times with this book and the previous two. The story is third person omniscient and at times its hard to focus on who's talking. This book specifically bothered me. I know that the children of Paul Atreides are intelligent and mature do to their birth. However, I feel there needs to be some for of child like ignorance or innocents to them. This would make them more believable.

As to what I found enjoyable about Children of Dune, there are several items on that list. I enjoyed the story and how it connected to Dune Messiah. I liked what I found out was Leto's ultimate goal. There was an underlying mystery that you discover with time. The story had good atmosphere at times.

A Review of Hellboy, Omnibus Volumes 3 and 4

 A Review

of

Hellboy

Omnibus

Volumes 3 and 4

The Hellboy comics are written and drawn by Mike Mignola. Volume three of the omnibus being reviewed is called The Wild Hunt and the fourth volume is titled In Hell. Combined, they dive deeper into Hellboy's origins and provide adventure along the way.

After finally finishing the fourth omnibus, adding Hellboy to my favorite superhero list can happen. I find him to be a bit reluctant in accepting his past. A past many of us would likely struggle to come to grips with. Part of it is a immense resilience to injury. This is something to like, and unlike Superman's invulnerability, Hellboy's is graphic.

I did enjoy these last two volumes like the previous. However, I do feel much of the battles and one on one fights were a bit too easy. I think part of Hellboy's charm is his dialogue and overall world.
