This is without question my favorite book of all time. It's written by Nicholas Eames and published by Orbit.

 The story is truly flawless. The characters are compelling and fun. You want them to win the whole time while bracing for the unexpected. There's something special about each of them and the world they experience. 

Clay is the point of view character and sees things through an almost chill lens. He does this while taking the most injures. And just like his fellow mercenaries he has something or someone to fight for.

Each of Clay's band mates (as they're referred to) has a long and interesting past. They can stand on their own and don't feel like secondary characters. Moog is my favorite. He's funny and a wizard, but most important of all he's unpredictable.

I recommend this book to fantasy readers and those who enjoy a good adventure mixed with humor.
