Five Stars

Andrzej Sapkowski has replaced George RR Martin as my favorite writer of all time. The characters, creatures, and setting of this book are immersive. Its the first fantasy novel I've read in less than a month. The book's setup is unique and creates fast pacing.

This first book in series of eight takes classic fairy tales we know and makes them dark. This is a good thing because the author also makes them is own in a way. There is an overarching story line that guides the reader on a quest through the protagonist's life. Humor is used which makes the pacing and story even better.

I do have one complaint that really does feel like one. The protagonist isn't proactive enough as you read. Sapkowski makes it work and what the Witcher does effects both the plot and story. This is what i look for in the book I read and write.
